King Anxi, entrusted by the late Emperor to enthrone the young prince, resents the treacherous prime minister's scheme to usurp the throne. Forced to return to Chang'an, King Xi'an recruits troops and scholars, intending to eliminate the traitor. To destroy King Xi'an, the imperial court sends an emissary, Jiang Liyun, to infiltrate the city.
On this day, King Anxi goes hunting in the spring suburbs. Jiang Liyun, disguised as a hunting ground guard under the name of Hai Jun, secretly helps King Xi'an capture a wild boar.
King Xi'an has a daughter, Princess Baihua, who is valiant and skilled. She tames a red-maned steed from the Western Regions and showcases her prowess in the hunting ground. Suddenly, the steed goes berserk, and Princess Baihua loses control. In a critical moment, Jiang Liyun leaps to her rescue.
Learning that General Bala, a trusted aide of King Xi'an, suspects him of being the imperial emissary, Jiang Liyun kills General Ha Hu, who was sent by the court to deliver a secret message. He leaves misleading words in the temple, implying that the imperial emissary is dead, and forges a letter in Bala's handwriting, implicating him in treason. This letter is placed on the deceased General Ha Hu's body.
Upon receiving this news, King Xi'an loses trust in Bala and promotes Jiang Liyun to a military advisor. Bala, plotting to get rid of Jiang Liyun, gets him drunk and pushes him into Princess Baihua's inner court. Unexpectedly, Princess Baihua falls in love with Jiang Liyun, and they exchange swords as a token of their alliance. Enraged, Bala severely reprimands King Xi'an, who, suspecting Bala of treason, kills him.
With his main rival eliminated, Jiang Liyun informs the imperial court to attack King Anxi. With Jiang Liyun as an insider, Princess Baihua's forces suffer successive defeats.
Seizing the opportunity, Jiang Liyun kills King Anxi. Princess Baihua's army is annihilated, and she takes refuge in a dilapidated temple. There, she learns that her father was killed by her husband, Jiang Liyun. Devastated and remorseful, she blames herself for her misjudgment, which led to the loss of her family and country. In despair, Princess Baihua kills Jiang Liyun and ends her own life.
